![]() the problem was never resolved and I gave up. I stopped using Pure Music entirely after one such update. Eventually the problems get fixed, for the most part anyway. Pure Music is easier on the ears to a small degree, but seems muffled by comparison. Mids, seem a little harder, tho not harsh as when using iTunes alone. In my system the BitPerfect has revealed a startling layer of detail I've not heard before with my music. From my experience HQPlayer has seen fewer issues than the others. I just installed BitPerfect and began using it. None adequately un-irritating for daily use. (I have licences for Amarra, Audirvana+, BitPerfect, Fidelia, HQPlayer, JRMC, and Pure Music.) Very frustrating indeed. I have tried Roon, Audirvana, Amarra, Bitperfect and others I have forgotten. As for xxHighEnd, cMP, Lilith Player, and Amarra, pure snake oil. If a listener cannot ABX two sound files with at least a 95 confidence level, then there is no perceivable difference between the files. I still use it if I feel like listening to one of the files I have bought as a download but I find the rendering software to be an inconvenience with (IMO) unnecessary updates on some and iTunes being incapable of conveniently playing files of different formats (and also being the most frequently downgraded in updates). The problem with bit-perfect audio playback vs non-bit-perfect playback is, can it be ABXed. I have automatic updates switched off on all my devices so they only update when I tell them to, having checked if the update is not a functional downgrade, once bitten twice shy. It still seems like a good solution to me, if only I had taken to streaming. I have formed my own conclusions and am curious to see if there is some unanimity. Since installing an M2tech Young dac/Palmer supply Im reevaluating players. It was much, much cheaper than Aurender and their like and overcame the inconvenience I felt in using a Mac mini with no display. Analog vs Digital We are now over 30 years on from the launch of the Compact Disc and the digital audio revolution. Be interested if anyone has compared the latest versions of these two to have your findings. It had a cd/dvd drive built in and a huge screen for looking at record graphics and reading the pdf files. link to BitPerfect blog post One big advantage to BitPerfect and probably the other apps is that, they automatically switch the outgoing bit rate to match the music and DAC. ![]() Eh Of course, iTunes itself is also capable of delivering ‘bit perfect’ audio playback. I wont say that one is better than the other, but I will say that I vastly prefer Amarra with my setup. The decay, dimensionality and 'room' sound is greater. All instruments share one space and 'interact' with one another. Then I was still thinking streaming was the way to go and still used to traditional hifi price tags I bought a base model iMac as my music server. But, somehow, BitPerfect (the app) makes the sound better/purer. Amarra counters with better cohesiveness, tube-like organic sound.
